Plot:
The book tells the story of a
16-year-old whose name was Holden. He studied at a school called Pencey. He was
kicked out of school and decided to go alone to New York.
When he arrived in New York he
stayed in a small hotel. He lived there for three days and had experiences with
prostitutes, alcohol...
At the end, He met his sister who decided to go with
him, but he refused. Finally, Holden thought and reconsidered to come back with
his family and eventually he did it.
Characters:
Around Holden we have been
able to meet several secondary characters that also contribute to the story:
Phoebe: She's Holden's little
sister.
Allie: Holden's dead brother.
Selma Thurmer: She is the daughter of the
Pencey school principal.
Spencer: He's Holden's teacher.
Ward Stradlerd: He's Holden's roommate.
Jane Gallear: She's a friend of
Holden's.
Sally Hayes: She's Holden's
ex-girlfriend.
Maurice: It's the hotel elevator
operator.
Mr. Antolini: He was Holden's favorite
teacher.
Personal opinion:
"The Catcher in the Rye" is a good book but a little
hard. I think it is too long even though it narrates only three days. It must
be said that thanks to its extension, these days are narrated in detail, which
allows greater understanding. Personally I think it is a book that I would
recommend others to read because I find it interesting. You have the feeling
that the main character is talking to you, telling you a story face to face. In
various moments I have felt sadness for Holden, sometimes you identify with
him, you feel misunderstood, alone, and like you can never get out of trouble.
On the other hand, I love how it ends, saying how he misses everyone although they
had many differences.
