Californication is the name of the seventh album of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of the world most famous music bands.
It was released June 8th of 1999, becoming one of their most
famous albums, the cover with the pool in flames is now a simbol of the
band.
This year is the album's 20th anniversary and if you're a fan of their music or rock music in general you might be interested in this article.
They started making the album in 1998 when John Fruscinante, the guitarist, who had left the group some years ago made his comeback. His particular style can be noticed in songs like emit remmus, which is summer time upside down due to a guitar riff that was recorded backwards.
That year's summer Flea's (the bass guitarist) garage became their rehearsal place, where they recorded almost 30 songs in a week
Californication, the song that gives title to the album, was the first one they did, the idea came to Keidis (voice) when he was in Tailand, he was impressed by the way that american culture could be perceived even in the most exotic places. It was the most difficult song to come out with for the album and it was almost left out. Nowadays is one of the most famous Chili Pepper's anthems.
While listening to the lyrics you can find references to California, the lyfestyle there, lacks of love, drugs issues and the Hollywood industry.
Porcelaine is whith no doubt the most calmed song of the album, it was inspired by a young mother, who had issues with alcohol, who Keidis (vocals) met at a church meeting. You can notice it in lines like "Are you wasting away in your skin?" and "Can you bear not to share with your child?"
Scar Tissue was the first song released from the album, it was different from what the band had done in the past. It was very succesfull staying on top of the charts for long and winning even a Grammy for best rock song in 2000, the year after being released. In the music video for the song the band members, covered in wounds and bandages, are in a car that is driven by John Fruscinante in the desert of California.
And that's a wrap, hope you enjoyed these facts about what actually is my favourite album.
