1st YEAR BACHILLERATO STUDENTS ARE GIVEN A LECTURE ABOUT UK CULTURE

On Thursday, 8th June, 2023, John Flynn, a lecturer working for Burlington Books, came to our high school as he had been invited to give an educational talk about United Kingdom culture. The two 1st Bachillerato classes went to the lecture at the third lesson.

This conference, called “UK Culture Class” was made possible thanks to the English department of our high school, who had got in contact with Burlington editorial.

During the talk, John explained us the history of the UK islands and the meaning of their flags.

In order to make the lecture more dynamic, he chose students from the audience to answer questions that he had asked them about the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, while he was introducing several topics, he told us curious facts about his country, such as the reason why they drive on the left, the important meaning that kilts have for the Scots or the origin of double-decker buses in London.

To sum up, the talk was a summary of the most typical facts about the United Kingdom culture. In my opinion, it was very enriching and funny. Furthermore, I learned aspects that I didn´t know about the United Kingdom and I liked listening to a native English speaker because I think that it´s essential when someone learns a language.
